Ramble from The Pen Mill Hotel Yeovil

18th February 2020 (9:15am - 1:00pm)

Ramble from the Pen Mill Hotel Yeovil, Please see below for details

Walk from Pen Mill Hotel, Yeovil, 18th February 2020

Around thirty members turned out for this local walk organised by Tony & Lesley

The day was sunny but there was a cold wind and after the recent rain the ground over parts of the walk was very soft.

We left the start point, on time, to walk over Wyndham Hill and join the riverside walk just east of the old town station site.

The line of the railway was then followed to Hendford where we turned southwards to pass through Rustywell  to reach the A30 on Hendford Hill.

After crossing the A30 we continued the gradual climb up “Lovers Lane”  before turning aside to skirt the head of Southwoods and follow the path along the southern perimeter of the Country Park.

After a pause at “The Play Zone” for a group picture we continued our walk but had to make a diversion for a fallen tree brought down by the recent strong wind. The path eventually lead us down through the Ninesprings valley to the end of the lower lake where we rejoined our outward route.

Turning eastwards we followed the path back to Pen Mill where we had a good lunch.

The next walk will be from The Quicksilver Mail at the top of Hendford Hill.

For further details see the website.

In the hotel carpark waiting to start. The new houses overlooking the carpark are built on ground where, in the early days of the club, Yeovil played their football matches

Setting off from the carpark we had to walk along the A30 as far as the traffic lights, where we crossed over to enter Yeovil Country Park
